Supervising Critical Incidents
Course Details
Our Supervising Critical Incidents course is taught by instructors who served as supervisors and senior detectives with the NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit. Designed for patrol supervisors, our goal is to equip law enforcement leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively manage the scene of a critical tactical incident until the arrival of a tactical team. These incidents include active shooter response, hostage incidents, barricaded subjects, and fleeing felons.
Participants will learn how to establish command presence, coordinate responding units, and implement initial response strategies that prioritize officer safety and protect the public.
Through scenario-based training, practical exercises, and case study analysis, supervisors will develop the confidence to make critical decisions. The course emphasizes the importance of clear communication with specialized units, ensuring a smooth transition of command when tactical teams arrive on scene. By the end of this training, supervisors will be better prepared to control and stabilize volatile incidents while maintaining operational effectiveness during the crucial moments before specialized tactical support takes over.
